Implementation

"All things worth doing require some dedication of time and effort."....R.H.

There are three primary functions:

  1. Program Implementation
  2. Program Continuity
  3. State Race Awards

Program implementation is handled by the Sportsmanship Director, a non-voting OISRA committee position.  It is the director's responsibility to oversee the details of funding and implementation for the Divisions and Leagues.

Program continuity involves establishing protocols for how the program functions and training the League Leaders on implementing these functions.

State Race awards are also handled by the Director.  S/He will interact with the State Race officials and arrange to make league champion awards to the top boy and girl from each league.  Naturally, the Director will procure the appropriate awards to be presented to these champions.

LEAGUE IMPLEMENTATION

The League Leader is the one key person in each league that makes the program happen. Some leagues may choose to form a committee, but the league leader is still the person in charge. Without you, implementation cannot happen.

Thank you for stepping up to fill this rewarding role.

As a league leader, you will need to be at each race to distribute and collect Appreciation Cards, enabling the coaches and race officials to note the day's standout participants. You'll also be on the hill, like a secret shopper, "catching" racers in the act of being good sportspersons.

At day's end, and at season's send, you'll be the one who calculates the top sportspersons and who distributes their awards. Not a bad job.

Coach Guidelines

Coaches and race officials are foot soldiers for acknowledging good sportsmanship when they see it. The program and the students need your input.

Your job is simple. A few times each race day, make an effort to note on the Appreciation Cards when you see exemplary behavior of any competitor. It takes a minute, when hands are cold and snow is falling, but that is the crucial minute for awarding points to deserving skiers.

At the end of the day, return your cards to your league leader. Job well done.

If at the end of the day, you recall another incident that should be acknowledged, take a moment to text or email your league leader and they'll handle it.
